Support our Libraries! Town Hall on 10/10. Fall Term Reminders and Events

Support Our Libraries, Protect Our Colleagues

Our union continues to fight the layoffs announced at the libraries in September 2025. Please sign our petition on Action Network and help us gather public support to protect our colleagues and oppose these harmful position eliminations. Libraries stewards are also reaching out to professional organizations for support in urging UO administration to change course.

Read CAT’s writeup about how our union fought cuts in the latest HELU (Higher Education Labor United) newsletter.

Fall Term Reminders

Fall Raises

During the most recent round of bargaining negotiations, the university administration and your union agreed to move the raise timeline, previously January, to September 1, 2025. Please check your most recent paystub and see Article 26 for additional details.

Note to 9-month faculty who have chosen the 12-month pay option: deferred pay runs each year from 10/1-9/30. Since the plan is calculated to be paid out through the end of September, you will see the increase starting on your October paycheck when the new deferred pay plan has been calculated.

Accommodations for Athletes

NCAA rules have changed regarding accommodations for student athletes. Notice in particular, the following language from the Office of the Provost.

Student-athletes may not be given special treatment simply because they are student-athletes. If you are considering an accommodation for a student-athlete and you have not offered and would not offer the same or a similar accommodation to another student, you should not offer it to a student-athlete.

If you receive any pressure from Athletics to change your course policies to advantage student athletes, please email us at info@uauoregon.org.

Professional Development Funds for Career Research Faculty

The VPRI's Career Research Faculty Professional Development Program is a competitive internal award competition providing support for career research faculty to participate in professional development opportunities.

Upcoming Senate Meeting

We are encouraging UA members to regularly attend UO Senate meetings (both the main Senate meetings, and Budget Committee meetings, once they are announced) to support and advocate for institutional accountability and reforms related to shared governance, UO’s finances, etc. The next meeting is: October 8, 2025 3:00pm–5:00pm. You can find your Senator here and email to ask them to vote yes on the Resolution to Strengthen Shared Governance

Our Politics Committee has also recently published more information about financial transparency and shared governance, including an overview of relevant UO policies and research into other university models. Email info@uauoregon.org if you’d like to join the Politics listserv.
