Membership Meeting Thursday 5-7pm. Open Enrollment and TRP Reminders

The Fall term General Membership Meeting (GMM) is this Thursday, 5-7pm in Gerlinger Lounge.

Dinner and drinks will be available at 5:00, business begins at 5:30. If you can’t join in person, you can Zoom in here.

In addition to updates on our efforts to push back against layoffs and the work units should be doing to revise Review and Promotion policies, much of the conversation will focus on current threats to higher education and what we are doing (and should be doing) as a union to push back. Please join us for this important conversation!

UO Senate Upcoming Meetings

Immigrant Rights Advocacy

  • We are distributing informational cards explaining what to do if immigration enforcement comes to your classroom or office. Stop by the UA office for cards, or print of your own copies of the cards here. You are encouraged to tape cards to lecterns in classrooms where you teach!
  • Portland Immigrants Rights Coalition is hosting another virtual Migra Watch training! Learn how to identify local immigration action and plug into a state-wide network of volunteers helping verify sightings to reduce fear and protect immigrant communities. Next virtual training is Nov 6 at 7pm (RSVP: tinyurl.com/MWNovember5)

Solidarity Spotlight

  • Sign: Petition to Protect UO Libraries Employees and Services. Several librarians were recently laid off. The Libraries are an extremely important part of our campus and our educational mission. Please support our librarians by signing the petition and posting a brief announcement on Canvas (or share some other way) inviting students to sign and share our petition.
  • Sign: PSU Solidarity Petition to Governor (Two asks: that the governor meet with PSU workers, and that the governor host a higher ed labor meeting with unions like ours across the state!)
  • Sign: Community Petition regarding Democracy on the Lane Community College Board of Education. The LCC Board of Education is increasingly excluded from decision making, including for their own Board agenda and important decisions that affect the whole community such as the recent suspension of the Licensed Practical Nurse program, which had no vote of the Board, nor any opportunity for public comment at an open meeting before the decision was made by the LCC Administration.
