As many of you know, UFCW Local 555 has launched an effort to recall State Representative Paul Holvey. Holvey has represented District 8, which includes most of south Eugene, in the Oregon legislature for the past 18 years.
We believe this recall effort is misguided. Representative Holvey’s record has been exemplary in support of workers, consumers, and small businesses. He is a former union carpenter with deep roots in the labor movement and has a solid track record of improving the lives of working Oregonians. He has consistently supported increased funding for education at all levels.
This recall effort stems from the UFCW’s dispute with Rep. Holvey concerning a particular piece of legislation. We believe recalls should be reserved for egregious misconduct examples, not political disagreements. We stand in solidarity with the overwhelming majority of Oregon unions for not supporting this effort.
If you live in District 8, we ask that you vote “no” to the recall.
More information about the recall is available at https://www.paulholvey.com/. You can also access the GTTF’s statement in support of Representative Holvey here.
We also encourage you to join our union siblings in the Oregon Nurses Association (ONA) in canvassing to Defend Rep. Paul Holvey in the Recall Election on Sunday, October 1 from 1-4pm in Eugene.
