On Friday, August 22, United Academics filed a grievance asserting that the administration’s announced plan to eliminate academic programs and terminate the faculty housed in those programs violates our Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The grievance seeks as a remedy that any program cuts and associated termination notices that the administration attempts to implement via Article 25 of the CBA be invalidated, resulting in full restoration of any impacted programs and revocation of all termination notices. If the grievance is denied, United Academics fully intends to escalate the dispute to arbitration. Furthermore, if the administration moves forward with its announced termination plans, United Academics anticipates filing multiple additional grievances alleging violations of other provisions of Article 25 and other articles in the CBA. Of course, our fervent hope is that the administration renders these grievances unnecessary by reversing course and abandoning its disastrous plans. However, absent such a reversal, United Academics will continue to fight at every turn.
